Tray incompatible with multiple displays

Only found a brief mention of this in another thread, which wasn't responded to:

I have my Dock display on the left side of my built-in display, and an external display to the right. This configuration seems to make the Tray unusable, since when placed on the left it is covered by the Dock, on the "right" it only opens when the cursor is in an indeterminate space at the border of my two displays, and on the bottom it will only open on the small display, regardless of which display's "bottom" surface I touch.

My ideal solution would be to allow the Tray to detect and appear at the true right side (of the second display), and to allow the Tray to know when it must be placed further from the edge so as not to collide with the Dock.

Forum: HoudahSpot Support

Suggestion for HoudahGeo

I have been using HoudahGeo for a couple years now and the one thing that I find most tedious is when I am tagging several folders of pictures from different days, and I have to keep backing up and drilling down in my folder structures. I keep all of my photos in a hierarchy of folders, and I keep my .gpx files in a separate folder.

It would be really nice if HoudahGeo would remember where I last loaded in photos AND separately remember where I last loaded in my GPS file.

Forum: HoudahGeo Support

Houdah Spot 3 Tagging - files on external drives?

Hello,

I'm about to purchase Houdah Spot as a replacement for Punakea.

One question though: If I tag files on an external hard drive OR within a truecrypt volume - what happens if I search such tags when the drive is unplugged?
Will files that match such tags

not show at all?

show with an indicator that they are currently not available?

show with an indicator that they are currently not available + an indicator which volume they are on (best option)?

Cheers,

jajaja

Forum: HoudahSpot Support

Searching NAS

I just wanted to thank you for sorting a knotty problem for me. I may well have been doing something wrong with Spotlight but I could not find a way of allowing a full file search on my NAS.
Could not find a clear answer in your forum before purchasing... but unless, I have just been lucky, choosing "user mounted remote volumes" just works. I have not found a way to limiting the search to a particular share or directory, but this is a huge step forward anyhow. Could not achieve this with Mac OSX 10.6.4 on its own.

Seems odd to me, that Mac has not come to terms with indexing files remote to the local machine. Thanks for the solution.

Stephen

Forum: HoudahSpot Support

track library import error messages

hi there pierre,
I thank you for the fine software. I am very much enjoying it. The last software update has made the gps tracking data import work ever so much better. However, since the update, I get the error message: "can't import, too many errors" the first time I try to import Track data. Always, I have to try one or more times before it is successful. the good news, it is most often successful after a number of times.
Is there a fix for this?
many thanks,
eve

Forum: HoudahGeo Support

Write in jpg files. LR does not read sidecars for Jpgs

Hi Pierre

I am tagging some older pictures, at that time I shot only JPG images. Shame on me, I know. I tagged them allright and HoudahGeo writes the Geo info into the XMP files, so that works. But when I import them in Lightroom (version 2.7) and I perform a Metadata/Read from files, it does not import the Geo data.

Lightroom will read and write te Geo info for JPG files into the file itself. Only info for Raw files is coming from the XMP sidecars. Any idea how i can have the GPS info written into the JPG file directly ?

Thanks for your help !

Forum: HoudahGeo Support

View -- Columns

Is it possible to set the columns you prefer to see on every search. For instance, I always want to see the file path. I know how to make it happen; but the next time I search I have to select to view that column in the new search. I can't find a way to do it in preferences. I haven't delved into templates yet though.

Thanks.

Forum: HoudahGeo Support

Delete all files for application

A suggestion for the future: I know there are apps like AppDelete to do this, but it seems it would be an easy addition to HoudahSpot to find all of the supporting files for a particular application and trash them without knowing any more than the app name.
Forum: HoudahSpot Support

Delete multiple gives a prompt for Each

I am trying to delete certain files (all the same name) spread out across my network drives. It found them all no problem.. but when i attempt to then select all and delete -- it wants me to 'ok' the delete for each one... but there are over 200 files... (and since this is mac - i cant just 'enter' on each one - since its not auto selected on "ok")
The reason for the prompt - is these are network drives - so its asking to ok a permanent delete (skipping trash - as there is no 'trash' available).

can we fix this to allow ONE prompt for all selected files (this is the way the OS works if i searched in spotlight and choose to delete them).

thanks

mary lou

mac os x.6.4

houdahspot 3.0.3 (3203)

Forum: HoudahSpot Support

Tags good - Tray bad

I upgraded to v3 to try out the potentially very useful Tags feature. Unfortunately I *really* do not like the Houdaspot Tray. The Dock is bad enough but I find other things leaping out of the side of the screen irritating and distracting particularly as it is very easy to accidentally activate the tray which gets in the way. Having to press a modifier key in order to activate setting tags feels even more awkward.

Why can't the Tray at least auto size?. Why is the Tags feature not incorporated into the main HoudaSpot search window / menus and contextual menus? Why isn't there a system wide contextual menu item to add/remove/show file tags?

Above all my main concern with becoming reliant on HS Tags is how easy will it be for Apple to break this feature in some future OS release?

A few of other Tags points..

There also seems to be an issue where adding a tag to an old file (in this case a MIDI file circa 1998) caused it to change its Kind from MIDI Audio to Pipe ?!

Tagged PSD files seem to not show previously set tags in HS window but can still be found when searching for the Tag in HS.

It would be good if there was a Tags field option by default in the field type popup selection menu in the HS search window. Likewise adding a Tags column in to the default column types in the column contextul popup menu in the main HS window.

Re; Blitszsearch

When doing a search from the Blitzsearch menu Houdaspot opens the my default search window which it then does not use and a second search window which has my default setting plus a whole bunch of other stuff which it uses for the search. In other words I have 2 windows open when I do a Blitzsearch and Blitzsearch uses the wrong one. I asume this is a bug?

It would be very useful to have a search History popup in the Blitzseach menu with the default search terms being those of the last search made.

Having said all that I find HoudaSpot indespensible.

Forum: HoudahSpot Support

HoudahSpot Helper Does Not Load at Login

I just upgraded to HS 3.0.2 and have discovered that I cannot get the HoudahSpot Helper to load as a login item. I use the Global Menu Bar magnifying glass icon a lot and hope this can be worked out.

If I launch HoudahSpot, then the HoudahSpot Helper process is started and remains open after HoudahSpot closes, so that is a temporary workaround.

Also, I think the behavior of the Magnifying Glass item is changed. It used to be that clicking on it opened a menu of template items. Now, the click brings up a BlitzSearch window. I have to use a two finger or control + click to open the menu of template items.

Forum: HoudahSpot Support

There seems to be a bug related with self defined global hot keys.
The hot keys as such work, but the menu bar item doesn't display them properly, it still keeps displaying the predefined hot keys, which is quite confusing.

A complete restart of HoudahSpot inclusive the menu bar item doesn't change this.

HoudahSpot v3.0.2

Forum: HoudahSpot Support
