Latest config (Mac OS 10.7.2, IOS 5), right set-up (same Wifi network, not wired devices). ACT doesn't work any more. And I have no error message. Is it a known issue? Or do I have a problem?

Thanks

Hi!

This is not a known issue. ACTPrinter should work fine with Mac OS X Lion and iOS 5.

What are the exact symptoms?
Does your iOS device show up in the devices list on the Mac?

Best,
Pierre Bernard

Thanks for the quick reply!

Symptoms: nothing is happening!

"Does your iOS device show up in the devices list on the Mac?": where should it appear? In the finder? Never saw my iPhone there...

Hi!

You need to install ACTPrinter for Mac. When run, this should list iOS devices running ACTPrinter on the local WiFi network.

ACTPrinter for Mac is (and was) up and running... Of course both devices are registered on the Wifi router and I can see them from there. But I guess you are referring to some other place...

Hi!

I meant within ACTPrinter for Mac itself. See attached screenshot.

I am running v. 1.5 and it is given as the latest on the App Store. But the only window the app is giving me is attached... I feel I missed something...

Hi!

Ok, ACTPrinter Mac 1.5 is a little bit different. ACTPrinter for Mac is not yet available through the Mac App Store. Not sure it ever will be.

ACTPrinter Mac 1.5 only shows the list of available devices if it has something to print.

For just about any Mac application (except Adobe Acrobat/Reader) select File > Print. In the print dialog, locate the PDF button in the lower left corner. Click it to reveal the PDF services list. Select "Print to iPhone". This will send the document to ACTPrinter for printing to your iPhone/iPad.

The ACTPrinter window should now open and have a drop-down menu where you select the device to print to. Your iPhone/iPad should be listed here.

Best,
Pierre Bernard

This is my whole point, Pierre. I am not new to ACT. So I know how to select "Print to iPhone". But when I do, nothing is happening... Are you therefore sure v. 1.5 works on Lion? Do you want me to set up ACTPrinter for Mac 2.0?

Hi!

Sorry, I did not understand you correctly.

Doesn't ACTPrinter even launch when you select "Print to iPhone"?

If so, the installation is probably broken. "Print to iPhone" is actually an alias to ACTPrinter.app located at ~/Library/PDF Services/Print to iPhone. You may try deleting that alias and then launching ACTPrinter. It should then create a fresh alias.

I would actually recommend you upgrade to ACTPrinter for Mac 2.0. It brings many improvements: the ability to queue printouts for later printing, printing to multiple devices, …

The PDF service in ACTPrinter for Mac 2.0 has been renamed to "Print using ACTPrinter".

Best,
Pierre Bernard

So deleted 1.5, set-up 2.0. I guess I have now to restart my Mac (something I can't do now because of a background task) and it should work...

Thanks

Hi!

There is no need to restart your Mac. You just need to manually launch 2.0 for it to complete the installation. It should replace "Print to iPhone" with "Print using ACTPrinter". Then you are good to go.

Missed that step :-). It works.

Question: Can I print directly or prints have to be manually released?

Thanks

Hi!

I am again not quite sure I understand the question.

You currently still need to click the OK button in ACTPrinter for Mac 2.0. I am considering an idea where you would set up a device as preferred target. Printouts would be sent as soon as that device goes online. That catch is that this would need a background process to stay running on the Mac.

Pierre Bernard

OK. If I print, it will open the ACT window and I will have to "OK" the print. In the past, it was going directly on my iPhone. It is not a huge setback, but still an extra step. That said a "preferred device" option would solve it.

Hi!

You always had to click the OK button.

The 2.0 update actually saves you clicks by letting the printouts queue up and sending them off all at once.

This thread has been very helpful.  I've had exactly the same experiences and problems as the other user.

Also, I can confirm that the print action used to send the file directly to my ipad (assuming the app was open) WITHOUT me having to press OK.

I only ever use one device, so I would love to be able to print directly to it as a preferred device rather than having to press OK.
