Hi!

Which GPS device do you have?

Could you please try using the free HoudahGPS (http://houdah.com/free/) to download the track as GPX file?
Do you get the same message?

Please check /Applications/Utilities/Console.app > All Messages to see if there are further error messages.

Best,
Pierre Bernard

Thank you for so fast reply !

Logger is Qstarz BT-1000ex 10Hz. It was successful with HoudahGPS ( GPX, KML ).

Only message from console is

Jan 18 23:30:34 MacBook-Pro-Aleksandr.local Console[522]: setPresentationOptions called with NSApplicationPresentationFullScreen when there is no visible fullscreen window; this call will be ignored.

Hi!

That message is logged by the Console app itself. I was hoping for messages from HoudahGeo, HoudahGPS or gpsbabel.

HoudahGeo 3.6.2 and HoudahGPS 6.0 should both use gpsbabel 1.4.4
There should be no difference.

Do you have installed an extra copy of gpsbabel manually?

Can you try this in /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app:

/Applications/HoudahGeo.app/Contents/Resources/gpsbabel -t -w -i mtk -f /dev/cu.QstarzGPS-SPPslave -o gpx -F ~/Downloads/out.gpx

You will need to replace "QstarzGPS-SPPslave" with the correct device name.

This should read data from the device ad write to a gpx file in the downloads folder.

I did't install gpsbabel manually, but install and uninstall other geotagging program.

I had two copies of HoudahGeo. I deleted both and

reinstall HoudahGeo from site to Applications.

/Applications/HoudahGeo.app/Contents/Resources/gpsbabel -t -w -i mtk -f /dev/cu.QstarzGPS-SPPslave -o gpx -F ~/Downloads/out.gpx

Failed to open port (No such file or directory)

mtk_logger: Can't initialise port "/dev/cu.QstarzGPS-SPPslave" (No such file or directory)

Hi!

Is "QstarzGPS-SPPslave" the correct device name?

Which settings did you use in HoudahGeo and HoudahGPS?

If you are trying to use Bluetooth, please check System Preferences > Bluetooth for the device name.
If you are using USB, HoudahGeo should suggest likely device names.

Best,
Pierre Bernard

Hi!

Please make sure you don't have a gpsbabel.ini configuration file installed on your Mac.

This can be at the following locations: ${HOME}/.gpsbabel/, /usr/local/etc/ and /etc/

E.g. try the following in Terminal.app

ls ~/.gpsbabel/

The command to match your screenshot is:

/Applications/HoudahGeo.app/Contents/Resources/gpsbabel -t -w -i mtk -f /dev/cu.usbmodem1410 -o gpx -F ~/Downloads/out.gpx

Please try that in Terminal.app

Best,
Pierre Bernard

Hi!

gpsbabel is getting values it does not expect. This could be caused by a incompatibly between gpsbabel and the firmware on your device.

Could you please try the following three command ins Terminal.app:

/Applications/HoudahGPS.app/Contents/Resources/gpsbabel -t -w -i mtk -f /dev/cu.usbmodem1410 -o gpx -F ~/Downloads/out.gpx

/Applications/HoudahGPS.app/Contents/Resources/gpsbabel -V

/Applications/HoudahGeo.app/Contents/Resources/gpsbabel -V

Also, I have a new preview version of HoudahGeo which instructs gpsbabel to ignore gpsbabel.ini files:

Hello !
Thanks a lot !

1. Answer from HoudahGPS was same.

2. Version of gpsbabel was same - 1.4.4

3. I installed new version of HoudahGeo but no effect.

I have windows soft with this device ( Qtravel, Qsports etc.) and use it with Parallels Desktop. I reset device using that soft and now HoudahGeo works OK.
After that reseting names of tracks in Qtravel soft were changed from qstarzDATE to trackDATE. May be that was problem. But now i download tracks from that soft and yours also. Hope that problem decided.

Thank you one more time for your very fast and professional answers.

Pierre,

I have been using Houdah forever and ever since Mac OS Yosemite, I believe, I have had a hell of a time getting Houdah GEO to read my Qstarz BT-Q1000XT datalogger. It just doesn't work. It use to work flawlessly with a USB cord.

I am using HoudaGEO 5.2 (have license for 4 under Stacey Calhoun, was trying 5 to see if it worked better) Mac OS Sierra and even tried High Sierra, nothing. I even tried Houdah GPS with no luck.

I am able to connect to Bluetooth but nothing happens when I try to download. I keep getting this is not an MKT device or it is turned off or if I used the SPPSlave, it appears to be working but hours later still the same screen. I am able to download the tracks on a PC fine.

Any thoughts or is this a known problem with the latest versions of the Mac OS. Am I missing a third party driver?

Thank you for any ideas you have.
Chad

Hi!

Do you know if you previously had installed a USB driver to connect to the device?
What version of Mac OS X did you last successfully use the device with?

Mac OS X used to include a driver (USB-CDC-ACM) that worked for many GPS devices. If you never had to install a driver, you were probably relying on this one. Unfortunately, Apple updated this in Yosemite and it became incompatible with may GPS devices it previously supported. I don't think they ever fixed this.

I remember customers reported success using some Qstarz devices with the USB driver intended for a device named GameTraka. I assume this is this driver.

Depending on which USB chip is used in your Qstarz BT-Q1000, you may also have used the SiLabs CP210x USB to UART Bridge VCP Drivers. If so, you need to update to the latest version after upgrading macOS.

Best

Tried both of those solutions you suggested with no luck. I even tried using an app called serial which does connect but I'm not quite sure how to extract the file(s) I need. It reads the data in an almost mac os terminal view. https://www.decisivetactics.com/

Thanks for your help. If you can think of anything else, let me know.

Ok.. I finally got it to work via bluetooth. I had to reset the device on my PC, the connection is even finicky there as well, but it did work via the USB cable. I figured it must have to do with the size of the track, because I tried another unit (same model) that had only a small track and I was able to unload onto my mac via bluetooth.  I then went out with the original unit and walked around the house for about ten minutes and was able to import on my mac using Houdah GPS.

Thank you for your assistance.
