Running most recent Mac and ACTprinter software and when I try to add a doc not all are available to "add" to ACTprint bucket.  When I do a print using ACTprint I get the working window but nothing shows up on iPhone or in/on computer.
Thanks, Bob

Hi!

Please check /Applications/Utilities/Console.app for error messages.

Please check that the following folder exists and that you have write rights to it:

~/Library/Application Support/ACTPrinter for Mac/Print Queue

You can access your Library folder in the Finder by holding the Option key and selecting Library from the Go menu.

Best,
Pierre Bernard

Hi!

When you "Print using ACTPrinter", the printing system will generate a PDF file and hand that to ACTPrinter for Mac which then saves it ~/Library/Application Support/ACTPrinter for Mac/Print Queue

Do the PDF files appear in that folder?

The error messages you found in the Console seem to pop up at a later point in the process. Shortly before sending the PDF printouts to the iPhone, ACTPrinter for Mac will call upon QuickLook to generate preview images. QuickLooks seems to have trouble loading the ParallelsQL.qlgenerator plug-in. I don't think that will have any ill effect on the transfer between Mac and iPhone.

Best,
Pierre Bernard

Hi!

I am sorry, there is no answer yet. I am still trying to figure out what is going wrong and why.

Could you please check if the PDF files appear in ~/Library/Application Support/ACTPrinter for Mac/Print Queue ?

Best,
Pierre Bernard

Hi!

Just saw your latest message.

Now I am stumped. I cannot see a reason why the files would not appear in that folder.

Did you ever succeed in having a printout show up in ACTPrinter for Mac?
Did you manage to "print" it to the iPhone application?

Best,
Pierre Bernard

Hi!

I am not sure we are on the same page here.

Internally ACTPrinter for Mac only handles PDF files. Other file formats need to be handed down to ACTPrinter for Mac from the Print dialog of an application able to handle that format.

I.e. you need to open your .doc file using Microsoft Word. Select Print from the File menu. Select "Print using ACTPrinter" from the PDF menu button.

A PDF is then generated and passed on to ACTPrinter Mac. It is then stored in the Print Queue folder until ACTPrinter Mac is given the opportunity to transfer the file to the iPhone / iPad.

BTW, old versions of ACTPrinter Mac are still available for download. They remain compatible with the current version of ACTPrinter on iPhone, but lack some features (e.g. the print queue).

Best,
Pierre Bernard

That is exactly what I'm doing for .doc files.  I use the drop down pdf button and go to ACTprinter, then I get the worlly window but nothing transfers.  Maybe I should just save as pdf for doc files as a work around but it bugs me not to have it work the way it was intended.  Thanks for the help.

Hi Pierre!

I think I have a similar problem with actprinter for mac:
My System is 10.8.2 and latest Version of client 2.0.4

when I select "Print using ActPrinter" nothing happens.
I see my Ipad and my Iphone in the companion software but i dont see printed documents there
If I do it manually by pressing the "+" button and then select any .pdf-File it works fine.
On my Mac I cannot find a "Console.app" file or anything else you wrote below
Thank you,
bernhard

Hi!

Console.app is located in the Utilities subfolder of your Applications folder.
In Console.app look for messages in "All Messages"

You may access your Library folder by holding the Option / Alt key and selecting Library from the Go menu in the Finder.
From there navigate to "Application Support"/"ACTPrinter for Mac"
You should find a "Print Queue" folder. Use the Finder's "Get Info" to verify that you have write rights to that folder.
If the folder is missing try creating it using the Finder.

If that fails, go to the "PDF Services" folder within your Library folder.
Remove the "Print Using ACTPrinter" alias file.
Launch ACTPrinter. It should install a fresh alias.

Best,
Pierre Bernard

Hi!

Please open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app (/Programme/Dienstprogramme/Terminal.app) and paste in the following line:
mkdir ~/Library/Application\ Support/ACTPrinter\ for\ Mac/
This will either create the folder or tell you it already exists.

Repeat with:
mkdir ~/Library/Application\ Support/ACTPrinter\ for\ Mac/Print\ Queue/
You may also use the Finder to create the folders:
Select Go to Folder (Gehe zum Ordner…) from the Go (Gehe Zu) menu.

When asked, paste in the following path:
~/Library/Application\ Support/
Now use regular Finder commands to create the "ACTPrinter for Mac" and "Print Queue" folders.

Best,
Pierre Bernard

Hi Pierre!
I am very very sorry - but I fear I am not able to check this...
I did it as you described and got the message "File exists":

Last login: Sun Mar 10 01:29:07 on ttys000
bernhard-sodeks-macbook-pro:~ Bernhard$ mkdir ~/Library/Application\ Support/ACTPrinter\ for\ Mac/Print\ Queue/
mkdir: /Users/Bernhard/Library/Application Support/ACTPrinter for Mac/Print Queue/: File exists
bernhard-sodeks-macbook-pro:~ Bernhard$

but i am not able to find the files - and it is still not working
when I select "Print using ActPrinter" the application is not starting.
Even when I start the application manually "Print using Actprinter" is not working - but I can drag a .pdf to the window and than print it to any of my devices.
I used ActPrinter since three Years - and i dont know exactly, when it starts not working - I think it is more than half a year in the past.

thank you,
with regards
bernhard

Hi Bernhard!

I think I now understand what the problem is. And it is easy to fix.

ACTPrinter for Mac creates an alias to itself in ~/Library/PDF Services.
That alias seems to be broken.
You need to delete it, ACTPrinter for Mac will then create a fresh one.

You have 2 options:

Using the Finder:
1. Select Go to Folder from the Go menu. (Gehe zum Ordner / Gehe zu)
2. Enter / paste the following: ~/Library/PDF Services
3. Trash "Print using ACTPrinter". If it exists, also trash "Print to iPhone"
4. Launch ACTPrinter from the Finder. It will say that it has completed installation

Using the Terminal:

1. Enter the following:
rm ~/Library/PDF\ Services/Print\ using\ ACTPrinter
2. Enter the following:
rm ~/Library/PDF\ Services/Print\ to\ iPhone
3. Launch ACTPrinter from the Finder. It will say that it has completed installation

Best,
Pierre Bernard
