When I search for a literal string within a phrase, the results are not wright.

use script "Progress Factory" returns 4 results while it should return 23 results as with the Progress Factory search.

See the screen shots below.

Hi!

HoudahSpot searches the Spotlight index. Spotlight in turn relies on importer plug-ins to extract metadata and text content from various file types.

Please check that text content is available files shown in your second screenshot and that it contains the phrase you are looking for. Select one of the files and then select View > Details > Text Preview from the menu.

Best,
Pierre Bernard

Hi, Pierre!

While waiting for an answer, I made several tries and found what was the problem:

The contents of the folder is a result of a script that replaces this folder if it already exists.
It seems that Spotlight had lost the infos about all .rtf files in this specific folder after several runs of the script.

All I had to do is to re-index the folder with mdimport.

...

I have another question.
I have seen here that we can use search queries using a special syntax like: search:filename.
Is there other of this kind? And where can we found a list of them?

Cheers.

Hi!

The HoudahSpot User Guide has a list of attributes on page 38.

I believe the user guide does not mention the “search:attribute” syntax. This is used to apply the same attribute to all words you enter. Instead of typing “name[tongue]ierre name:Bernard” you can use “search:name Pierre Bernard”. I believe this is most useful for integrating HoudahSpot with other applications. E.g. you could set up Alfred or Keyboard Maestro to start a search in HoudahSpot and want that default to searching by name. For this you would only need to add “search:name “ in front of the text entered.

Best,
Pierre Bernard

Yep. That's exactly what I'm doing: I use Applescript to automate my searches.
Mostly, I'm searching for code snippets in the content of script files.
I tried some keywords and found that contains did the trick.
But I was curious of what was the other keywords available.

Looking at the list in the User Guide, I can see there's a lot.
Some of them should be very, very helpful to me.

Thanks a lot.

You can write in French to support [at] houdah.com. I prefer to keep the forums in English.
