Hopefully it's just me doing something wrong

Everything seemed to work perfectly for me up to the release of 2.1.

Now when using 2.1
On the iPad with Swap backspace and delete checked : Entire word to the left is deleted
On the iPad with Swap backspace and delete unchecked: Character to the left is deleted

On the iPhone with Swap backspace and delete checked : Entire word to the left is deleted
On the iPhone with Swap backspace and delete unchecked: Character to the left is deleted

On the AppleTV with Swap backspace and delete checked: nothing
On the AppleTV with Swap backspace and delete checked: nothing

The Special -> Key Sequences appear to work on the AppleTV but it's time consuming navigating the menus.
Recording a keyboard shortcut seems to work, only if you the window to assign the keyboard shortcuts has the focus meaning you need to switch focus every time from the input window to the shortcut window if you want to delete and back to the input window to continue typing.
Again this is time consuming, and not the most intuitive method

The previous version worked perfectly with the AppleTV, all be it with the swap backspace and delete checked.

AppleTV software version 5.2.1 (6025)
iPad version 6.1.3 (10B329)
iPhone version 6.1.4(10B350)

Hi!

Sorry to hear you ran into trouble.

Thank you for sending in the detailed report. This will help in testing what went wrong.

Could you answer a couple more questions:

- Which version of Mac OS X are you running?
- Which keyboard layout are you using on Mac OS X?
- Which keyboard layout are you using on iOS?
- Which keyboard layout are you using in Type2Phone?
- Did deletion to the left on Apple TV previously work only with the "swap" option checked? What happened with the option unchecked?

I don't quite understand what you are trying to do with keyboard shortcuts.
To assign a keyboard shortcut, the customization window needs to be active, the desired item needs to be selected and you have to start the shortcut recorder.
Once the shortcut is assigned, it should work from anywhere in the application.
I don't understand why you want to re-record it.

Best,
Pierre Bernard

Also, please check the version of Type2Phone in "About Type2Phone".

It should say Type2Phone 2.1 (516)

Pierre,
Thanks for the quick reply

On the Mac
10.8.4
UK keyboard layout on an Early 2011 Macbook Pro
2.1 (516) Type2Phone

On the iPhone/iPad
UK keyboard layout

On the AppleTV
No option to change layout, according to this
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5633?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
The AppleTV will always default to US English layout

With the swap backspace and delete checked in previous versions, there was no issue.

I was only poking around in the keyboard shortcuts section for the sake of completeness, I was testing them to see if there was any way in which they appeared to 'interfere' with the delete key.

Jeff,

What keyboard layout is Type2Phone set to?
That's the flag in the upper right corner.

Did iPhone and iPad previously work with the "swap" option checked?

Do I understand this correctly:
- With "swap" unchecked iPhone and iPad are working as expected
- Deletion on Apple TV never works no matter what the option is

Pierre Bernard

Hi Jeff,

The above message was written a couple of hours back. And I forgot to send it.

I meanwhile went out and bought myself an Apple TV.
I am seen the same problem here with Type2Phone 2.1.
I have not yet tested Type2Phone 2.0.3.

I found the code change between 2.0.3 and 2.1.
Would you believe that it is one single line that moved up in a conditional block.
“Swap backspace and delete” no longer is symmetrical. It only converts one way.
The problem affects Android and Apple TV users.

Pierre,
Thanks again for the quick reply - especially on a Sunday
It's the british layout on Type2Phone.
- With "swap" unchecked iPhone and iPad are working as expected
Correct
- Deletion on Apple TV never works no matter what the option is
Correct, previously with the option checked, The delete key would work.

I could well believe it, it's been a long time since I coded in anything but SQL but it's easy for things like that to slip past unnoticed.

Hi!

Thank you for providing all that information.
With that I was able to track the bug down.

I now have a beta of Type2Phone 2.2.
Please contact support if you want access to that.

This should fix the problem with the backspace key. I have tested this with iPhone, iPad and Apple TV
I have no Android device to test with.

This version also adds “per device settings and keyboard layouts”
The settings at the bottom of the Preferences window now apply only to the selected device.

Please let me know how this beta works for you.

Best,
Pierre Bernard
