Here are a few things that would be nice to see in an upcoming version:

#1

New Window - Retain User Spec'd Column Order, Widths

Every time I create a new window, my various window settings are lost (column order, width, etc.). Can these settings be saved?

#2

I am forced on creation of every new window to specify a camera setup. In my case, this does not change and is more of a nuisance. In the case of gps4cam, this seems to be a good thing.

Hi!

#1 is an oversight. HoudahGeo retains enabled columns. It also should retain column order.

#2 is intentional, but not as much a nuisance as you might think :-)

Correct camera clock settings are crucial for automatic geocoding to work.
You should verify that camera clock has not drifted or otherwise changed.

If you are sure camera clock settings are unchanged, just click OK
HoudahGeo defaults to the last settings used.

Sorry, I was unable to try out the latest beta. However, I am now running v3.5.

#1

It appears in my minimal testing of 3.5, column order and widths are retained and now any new window uses these retained values.

#2
I understand correct clock settings are key. That said, I am dealing with multiple GPX files and sets of photos from the same camera that has the same time setting throughout.

My Scenario:
Using Camera X with a constant time setting. Note, I feel there has been little drift observed in the time over a period of months, based on my work thus far with my photos and GPX files from the past.

In my work, I have one GPX and several photo files (JPGs). I create an individual .hgeo file for each GPX. Sometimes, my GPX may only have three JPGs. Given the repetitive nature of the work, the fact I am dealing with the same camera, the prompt for the 'Camera Setup' becomes cumbersome.

With this in mind, I wonder if it would be possible in the preferences to have a checkbox for having a default camera setup setting.

What is your opinion of this?

For any others interested, I recently obtained a Wacom Bamboo Caputure (CTH470). I have been very happy with the assignable 'ExpressKeys' so I can alternate between various applications with ease. To button 1, I assign HoudahGeo. To button 2, Path Finder. To button 3, Safari. And to button 4, the keystroke Command-3; this is to be used in HoudahGeo so I can jump quickly to the 'Export' screen.

RE: The new Images>Reveal Location in Google Streetview, a browser tab opens and marks the location, but it does not enter StreetView. Anyone else seeing this?

Hi!

Little known feature:

In System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts you can assign keyboard shortcuts to almost any menu item in any Mac OS X application.
You just need to write down the exact name of the menu item.

I use this most frequently for the "From" menu in the mail compose window of Mail.app
cmd-1 for business mails, cmd-2 for private mails

Hi!

I still need to figure out what broke the links to Google Street View.
Google may have changed the URLs

Hi!

May I ask why you are creating a separate HoudahGeo project for each GPX file?

Does simply dismissing the Camera Setup window by hitting Return/Enter not work for you?

Have you tried keeping an empty HoudahGeo project around?
- Create a new project
- Set camera time info
- Save

For each batch of photos:
- Open the empty project
- Add images
- Add track logs
- Export
- Close without saving

Hi!

Turns out my test case for Google StreetView was flawed.
The current implementation works only if a viewing direction is set on the image.

Regarding "Viewing Direction", is this a value typically set by an iPhone or a GPS device?

Regarding my usage of HoudahGeo project files, I thought it would be clean to save each individual GPX file recorded for a walk or bicycle ride with the individual photos taken during that activity. I often times will cover the same geographical area during my activities (walk/bicycle). I thought combining these GPX files in a single HoudahGeo project to be messy. Please share your opinion on this workflow.

Hi!

In order to compute viewing direction, HoudahGeo needs data from a compass-enabled GPS that was somehow physically attached to the camera. I.e the compass needs to notice when you turn to point the camera at a different subject.

The Camera app on iPhone records GPS coordinates as well as viewing direction.

I always recommend to keep GPX files on archive for later use.

When you get to geocoding, you may add all GPX files to a single HoudahGeo project and then add all the photos.
What you shouldn't do is include conflicting track logs in a single project: simultaneous recordings from 2 different GPS devices.
