I open a template and select Save As Default.
I open prefs and select Saved Default Search.
When I open Houda Spot it searches in some
random location, not the one in my default template.

Also tried selecting the template from the dropdaown menu
as my preferred template with the same results.
This was working.

Tried trashing plists. No good.

10.9.3
(just updated and this may be the beginning of this issue.)

Any ideas?

Hi!

Are you always trying to set the same location?
Is the resulting random location always the same?

Could you try starting from a completely fresh HoudahSpot search?

1. In HoudahSpot > Preferences > New Search, select "No template. Use application defaults"
2. Create a new search / window
3. Change the location to search
4. Select File > Save as Default
5. Create a new search / window

Does that new window search the correct location?

It appears the search location has been the current location of the Finder.

***
If I choose New Search from the File Menu the search is correct.
It’s when I first open HoudaSpot the window the search defaults to the current Finder location.
***

I followed the steps you outlined.
After choosing Save As Default a new window immediately opened with the correct location and search parameters.

When quitting HoudaSpot and reopening it the location went back to the current directory location of the Finder.

Perhaps this is normal?
It would be nice for HoudahSpot to open with the default search.

Hi!

HoudahSpot should default to the Home folder or whatever location you have set in your preferred template.

HoudahSpot can search the current Finder window. But that is not the default behavior. This can be triggered using the HoudahSpot "Search.app" Finder toolbar button or using AppleScript.

How do you open HoudahSpot?

I remember now this all began after installing the Finder toolbar button.

I've been using the HoudahSpot "Search.app" Finder toolbar button.

When I open HoudaSpot normally it opens the correct default template.

It would be really convenient to be able to have Blitz search and
the
Finder toolbar button open the default search criteria.

Thanks for your help!

Hi!

BlitzSearch should open the default location.

The very purpose of the Finder toolbar button is to search the current window.

If you want a Finder toolbar to launch HoudahSpot, go to the Applications folder, drag the HoudahSpot.app icon to the Finder toolbar, hold the command key until a "+" sign appears next to the cursor, drop the icon into the toolbar.

Thanks!

I thought that dragging apps to the Finder toolbar
was lost in 10.9 since in ML I just dropped apps there.
Now you need the ⌘ key.

All solved.
