I want to try HoudahGeo to see if it's suitable for what I am trying to do.  Does anyone know what are the limitations on the demo are?

Thanks.

Hi!

Thanks for your interest in HoudahGeo.

The demo version is limited to exporting (Google Earth, Flickr, EXIF) 3 images at a time. Otherwise it is identical to the licensed version.

Thankyou for that I will give it a try.  One more question.  I notice you mention xml files in the HoudahGeo description.  Is there a way or reading from an xml sidecar file and then writing the geo data to a cr2 raw file?  I have recently converted to a Mac from a PC and all of my previous images have been downloaded using Downloader Pro from Breezesys. This took my tracklogs as well as the images on import and produced an xml sidecar file.  As the cr2 files are going to be moved from the pc to Aperture, I need to be able to extract from the xml and insert in the cr2.  Can HoudahGeo do this?

Hi!

When present next to an image, HoudahGeo reads time and GPS data from the XMP sidecar file. Similarly HoudahGeo will write to an already existing XMP sidecar. If you move the sidecar out of the way, HoudahGeo will write to the image file.

HoudahGeo however is not a tool to copy XMP data from a sidecar to the main image file. It reads only the data it actually cares about.

For more general uses, I suggest you investigate the command line utility exiftool.

Thanks Pierre,  I have just tried that but it didnt seem to work.  I dragged the cr2 file onto HoudahGeo and the coords were picked up as expected from the xmp file.  I then removed the xmp file from the folder and chose export/write EXIF Tags with selected geocoded images only/Work on originals/coords/altitude.  But I get an error message "One or more of the images were missing. They were skipped"  any ideas.

Regards,

Rob

My appologies.  I realise I have posted this thread in the wrong forum.

Hi Rob!

This should work Could you send me a sample file along with the XMP so I can try for myself?

P.S: I moved the thread to the HoudahGeo forum. No probs.
