Does HoudahGeo 5.3.3 support Canon .CR3 files?  Also, for RAW files, will HoudahGeo write the GPS info (taken from a .gpx track file) directly into the original RAW file, or will it only write out XMP sidecar files?

Yes, HoudahGeo 5.3.3 supports Canon CR3 files.
Yes, HoudahGeo can write directly to RAW files. It also has the option to write to XMP sidecars.

I encourage you to try the demo version. It is fully featured. Export operations (e.g. writing to EXIF/XMP) are limited to processing 5 images at a time.

I have a Canon 90D which produces Canon CR3 raw files.  I cannot seem to load it.  Is this file type supported by HoughGeo 5.3.3?  Thanks

I can't find any definitive information, but I believe CR3 support was added only in one of the 10.4.x updates.

Try opening the CR3 with the Apple Preview or Photos app. If those apps cannot read the file, your version of macOS lacks support for CR3.

Interesting.  I can open my CR3 files in Photo Mechanic and Lightroom Classic but not Photos or Preview.  I guess Apple is behind the curve here and I will have to wait until I upgrade my OS.

Thanks for the info.

I am running the latest Movaje version.  Photos, Preview, and QuickLook still will NOT support the .CR3 files generated by my Canon G5X Mark II camera.  BUT, HoudahGeo 5.3.3 WILL support them.  See  https://www.dropbox.com/s/ifhjmyexh4jv2hn/2019-09-19_HoudahGeo%20Screenshot.png?dl=0

HoudahGeo needs the system to support the image format so that it can show previews of the file.

In your case, Adobe Lightroom has generated the preview and HoudahGeo can show that. That actually is quite a nice workaround.

I don't know exactly when macOS added support for CR3 and which variants it supports. macOS 10.14.6 can show CR3 files from an EOS R.
