I find when creating searches I want to exclude a folder containing files showing up in my search results. I can select a file in the search results and drag it to the Exclude section on the left, but more often than not I want to exclude a folder or 2 levels higher than the file I drag there, so that it excludes all files in that higher level folder.

When you select a file it shows all of the folders in the path bar at the bottom. It would be really helpful after selecting a file to be able to drag any of these folders up to the Exclude section to remove all files within that folder from the search. With this method you could also drag a folder to the Where section to include in a search.

Any chance of this happening in the future?

Also, I have a problem where almost all of the time if I select a file in the search results "Reveal Selection in Finder" in the menu bar is greyed out, so I can't open up it's containing folder. Is this a bug?

Hi Jono!

Thank you for the feedback. Dragging from the path control sounds like an excellent idea.

Which version of HoudahSpot are you using?
My contextual menu looks different.

Great, thanks.

My screenshot was from the menu bar. If I right click on the selected file it looks like yours, and "Reveal Selection in Finder" works fine there. The problem seems to be trying it from the menu bar or if I try the keyboard shortcut.

Hi!

That's really odd. The same code enables the Reveal in Finder, Reveal in PathFinder, Open, … menu items.

I'll see if I can find an explanation for this bug.

Hi!

You may command-click a folder in the bottom path bar to add it to the search scopes.

Starting with HoudahSpot 3.3.1, you will also be able to command-option click to exclude the folder from the search.

HoudahSpot 3.3.1 will also add drag and drop.

I've noticed a slight problem when doing this in Grid/Icon view.

When I select a file in the results window and then go to drag the folder from the path bar at the bottom, it often changes selection to the first file (top left) instead of the file I've selected. Does anyone else experience this?

Hi Jono!

That's odd behavior. I tried to reproduce this here but did not succeed.

BTW, I forgot to mention that HoudahSpot 3.3.1 fixes the Reveal In Finder menu item. As luck would have it, I had named a method the same as an existing Apple method.

Ah, maybe it's just here then

And yes, I noticed that had been fixed but forgot to say. Thanks a lot.
