Hi,

I'd like to filter out results from folders - not by specifically excluding locations, as I have many projects which have the same sub-folder names so it would be tedious to add all those folders.

I've seen other posts where the suggestion is to enter the name of the folder to exclude into the loupe - that's great - can that be saved as part of a template?

In some posts I've read that results can't be filtered by folders - and yet this app:
http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
..which is no where as powerful as HoudahSpot - has the option to exclude Folder Names in the results...

Is HoudahSpot missing a trick here?

Surely any file has a full posix path which could be regex filtered?

Cheers

Hi James,

HoudahSpot searches the Spotlight index. This does not allow for searching by file path. Thus HoudahSpot first needs to run the search and then filters out (aka. excludes) results you are not interested in.

You can use the filter field above the search results to hide files certain folders. E.g. to exclude files from folders named “Temporary”:

1. Run your search
2. Type the following into the filter field: /Temporary/
3. Select the “Exclude by Path” option for the filter field

This will hide all results where the path contains /Temporary/

You can also use the asterisk as a wildcard. E.g. if you are searching in /Users/pierre/Documents and want to see only files from the top level, you can “Exclude by Path” for “/Users/pierre/Documents/*/”. This will hide all files where the path has an extra slash. I.e. all files nested in a subfolder.  Only top level files remain listed.

Filters are saved to templates. You can create a template to hide files nested in a “Temporary” folder.

Pierre,

Thanks for your reply.

How do I apply multiple (folder) filters?
I've tried using a comma and the keyword AND to separate folder names but neither are working.

App suggestion:
Why not add a 'Filter' section in the Search pane?

James,

Currently you can only have one file path or file name filter.

Are you trying to work with the files you find or are you trying to build a list of files?
If it is a list you need, you can export search results to CSV and filter that list using a spreadsheet.

To be honest I was expanding upon the example template of Recent Files that ships with HoudahSpot.

I'm a web developer working with WordPress - so this query throws back a lot of results.
I was testing HoudahSpot out - to just show the files I've personally recently worked on, not WP admin files, plugins etc.

A bit disappointed that multiple filters can't be setup to be honest.
Do you have any plans to expand this feature?

Cheers

Hi James,

I have added the request to the list of features to consider for a future update. I can’t make any promise that it will be implemented.

You may want to try to exclude .php and .html files by extension.

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortuneately filtering .php and .html files would filter-out the files I've worked on - so not a viable solution.

Look forward to (hopefully) seeing multiple filters in a future update.
