I've got a directory full of folders with mixed contents. I want to list all the folders which only contain one (visible) file.

I can't seem to figure out the formula for either HoudahSpot or Finder Smart Folders.

Thanks for the help.

You can search by "Number of Items".

HoudahSpot relies on the Spotlight index. This has information on "number of items" in a folder. It does not differentiate between visible and invisible items.

Caveat: I have seen the Spotlight index having an incorrect value for "number of items" (internally: kMDItemFSNodeCount). It appears Spotlight does not immediately update this count. It probably waits until a change other than creating or removing a file is made. Renaming the folder does update the count.

Thanks. That's too bad. Item count is important in some types of searches, and if you can't trust it, you can't do bulk operations on the search results.
