Hi, strange problem recently cropped up : now when I open a folder in my Dock via context-menu, instead of opening it it opens HS!

This is my downloads-folder, it opens alright as a stack, just not in Finder, If I chose show in Finder that works. I have tried to remove it and add it again to the Dock to no avail. The same happens with any other folder I add to the dock.

ANY ideas?

Rolf

Hi!

This is unfortunately not the first time I hear of this problem. I currently cannot offer an explanation as to what happens.

Please try maintenance using the excellent AppleJack:
applejack AUTO restart
If you find a solution, I would be glad to hear it.

Best,
Pierre Bernard

Hi, will do at the earliest…

this is a DEEP cleaning, you suggest…

some things I did before (forgot to add):
• iTunes 8.1 install

• applied combo-updater 10.5.6 because of some spotlight glitches (couldn't find stuff, didn't properly show controls (search criteria in smart folders), though that might have been due to the fact that spotlight was doing a deep reversal of TimeMachine-data… it works now.

Hi!

This is indeed a deep cleaning. My hope is that resetting Launch Services will clear the problem.

If you are experiencing Spotlight issue, I would suggest you rebuild your Spotlight index after running AppleJack.

Hi!

I would suggest you install AppleJack nonetheless. It's the first thing I install when I get a new machine. It has the distinct advantage of running in Single User Mode. Thus it will be available should your Mac one day have trouble booting normally.

AppleJack's deep cleaning checks the disk, repairs permissions, cleans caches, ...
