First time I've use Houdah Geo since upgrading to Mac OS Yosemite and got a warning that I need to install Java Runtime Environment.  Updates my Mac to Java version 8 and still no joy.

A quick check for GPS4CAM has a comment that the runtime version of Java doesn't work and so that bit of Houdah Geo doesn't work.  It was a great paring that I used a lot as it is less battery hungry then doing a GPS track.  Any suggestions for a work around?

Hi!

You need to install the Java runtime from Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572

You may – in addition to the above – install a newer Java runtime from Oracle.

Thanks Pierre,

Tried the link and only got an empty page.  Did some checking though and found my Java was missing so now have JAVA 8 and according to the control panel the runtime aspect is there, but HoudahGeo still tells me GPS4cam needs Runtime Java.  Any ideas?  Is it worth me reinstalling HouedahGeo?

Happy New Year too!

Cheers

Hi Richard,

The link is correct. The Apple support web site is currently somewhat broken. If you clear all apple.com cookies in Safari, you will be able to load the page. You could also use Chrome to visit http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572 . Or try the direct download from http://support.apple.com/downloads/DL1572/en_US/JavaForOSX2014-001.dmg

You do need the Java version from Apple. That includes a program to redirect calls to java to whatever version is currently installed.

Came to this forum for some gps4cam support. I hope to use this same solution for El Capitan. Anyone else already been down this path?

Pierre - Do you know if the gps4cam team is on a hiatus? I read that many folks no longer receive support.

Hi!

The current version of HoudahGeo checks for several possible locations where to find a Java installation.
This should allow it to run gps4cam without having to install a legacy version of Java.

Pierre,

Can you advise the best way to install Java on El Capitan for the gps4cam helper to function in HoudahGeo?

Hi!

I have an Oracle version of Java installed at /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin
I believe this is from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/mac-138071.html
