I'm evaluating HoudahSpot and was trying to figure out if HS locates hidden files by default or not.  I did not see anything (or I may have missed it) in the preferences.

Is this done automatically? If so, does it list the files as "hidden" under "kind" or something similar to that?

Thanks!

Hi!

Invisible files are included in the result only as long as a criterion on visibility exists.

Would I have to change the visibility criterion via Terminal to make it show on my searches?

Hi!

The visibility criterion is listed by the name of "File invisible" in the criterion attribute pop-up menu.

Hi!

Another way to have invisible files included in the search results is to hold the option key as you start your search.

The behavior of the option key may be reversed using a hidden preference. I.e. invisible files will then be shown by default.
defaults write com.houdah.HoudahSpot includeInvisibleFiles -bool YES
You will however find that searches run slower when invisible files are included. That is why this option is not enabled by default.

A very important information in deed. I just wonder why you do not provide a query option in the form of "File visibility: Visible or Invisible" as provided by the Mac OS X Finder. Of course, it's much more comfortable to use the option key. However, one has to know that: I did not find this hint within HoudahSpot.

Hi!

You may always add a criterion on visibility as described above.

If you wish for the criterion to be available by default, you may add it to your preferred template.
