I tried using the autocomplete feature in 3.7 but I couldn't figure out how to make it work. Do you know what I might be doing wrong? By the way I love the new file rename feature!

Hi!

The autocomplete works for the "Tags" and "Kind" criteria.
It is only enabled when using the "is" operator.
The default operator for these criteria is "contains".

Why does the feature only work with the "is" operator?

Hi!

With the "is" operator you are looking for an exact match.
Hence it makes sense to suggest possible values.

With other operators like "begins with" you might be trying to match several possible values.
E.g. You might type "Mac" and expect to find files tagged "MacOSX" or "Macintosh".
If HoudahSpot were to automatically complete the criteria to read "MacOSX" you would be missing half your results.

But you don't have to accept autocomplete's suggestion. It is just as easy to hit delete to get rid of "intosh" as it is to hit enter to accept "Macintosh". I think it is still just as important to have auto complete even when you are not using an "is" operator. Either way people still might need to know the spelling of something or to see a tag that they might have forgotten about.

Hi!

HoudahSpot 3.7.1 adds a hidden setting to always enable auto-complete.

You may enable this, by quitting HoudahSpot and then pasting the following line in /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app:
defaults write com.houdah.HoudahSpot AutoCompleteAlways -bool yes
The command to revert back to the default setting is:
defaults delete com.houdah.HoudahSpot AutoCompleteAlways
Thanks Pierre, maybe others in the forum can give their opinion on this matter as well.
