I never really use the HS search in the menu bar since I find that it doesn't search anywhere near as good as using the regular HS window. It would be nice if the HS menu bar item just functioned similar to the HS window. Switching over to HS can take a bit of time if there is a lot of programs open so it would be much nicer to click the menu icon (or better yet) use a keyboard command like command+spacebar to being up HS.

Hi!

You may want to try the third party tool Apptivate to open / activate HoudahSpot.

I would like to try that program but I am still running a PowerPC computer. It looks like that would do a good job of fixing the problem though.

Hi!

Please have a look at FastScripts.

It allows for setting hot-keys to invoke AppleScripts. Free for 10 keyboard shortcuts.

The problem is that I don't know how to use AppleScript. I tried another program called Spark but I had the same problem with it only be useful to people that know AppleScript. Does Launchbar allow you to use shortcuts to launch the app? I have heard a lot of people rave about that program and it still works for PowerPC.

Hi!

The script could be as simple as:
tell application "HoudahSpot"

activate

end tell
or
tell application "HoudahSpot"

activate
make new document

end tell
Got it to work! That works so much better with a shortcut.
