Hi Alain,

The results list show the file's display name. This can be different from the file's actual name. E.g. Apple Mail stores messages in numbered .emlx file. The display name for these files is the message subject.

Filename is available as additional column in HoudahSpot.

Finder settings can remove file extensions from the display name.
- Select the file in Finder. Select File > Get Info from the menu. There is a checkbox to "hide extension".
- There is also a setting in Finder > Preferences > Advanced: "Show all filename extensions"

Best,

Pierre Bernard

Thanks for your detailed answer.

You are perfectly right:
- Select the file in Finder. Select File > Get Info from the menu. There is a checkbox to "hide extension"
The checkbox was spuriously checked.

But this casual case is a little bit more complicated that it seems...

- There is also a setting in Finder > Preferences > Advanced: "Show all filename extensions"
The checkbox is explicitly checked... so consistently "Finder" (and much more "Path Finder" in my case) display the extension: the user in this case has no feedback of the spuriously checking.

May be HoudahSpot, in consistency with "Finder" (and secondarily "Path Finder"), could displayed too the extension in this  situation, that other users can meet.
