Clicky

After tagging and exporting for GE- a couple of the photos have the 320px images showing when clicking on the thumbnail, but most of the thumbnails do not display the image at 320px after clicking on it. You just see a dialog box with the photos missing and a question mark where the image should show.

GE crashed and then the entire computer when working with 147 images tagged and attempting to display in GE. This was my first try using eh 960px size - then I tried the 320px...with 320px GE did not crash the app or the computer - but no images except for a couple from the thumbs....

An example is attached.

A solution would be helpful and prove to me that I did not waste my $ buying this program.

Hi!

Sorry to hear you are having troubles.

Could you please send me a KMZ file with 320px images that fail to display? I'd like to see what is wrong with the file.

Did you get any error messages in HoudahGeo during export?

Which version of Google Earth are you using? May I suggest you try both 4.2 and 4.3beta.

I have never used that many images in a KMZ file. I find the file size to become impractical with too many images. I am however surprised and disappointed that Google Earth would crash over the file size.

Best,
Pierre Bernard

I am using the 4.3.7204.836 version of Google Earth. I looked at the kzm file in GE that is on the forum showing the CA wine country and see similar results with only a couple of images visible in the pop up. Most will not show. I'll send you the kzm file by email since it is too big to attach to the board.

Hi!

Thanks for sending in the KMZ file. It turns out this is a bug in the current beta of Google Earth 4.3. The Windows version is not affected.

The first placemark description balloon to be opened displays correctly. Further placemarks no longer load images. Returning to the first placemark, it is still displayed correctly.

Workarounds:

1. This bug affects KMZ files only. Rename your *.kmz file to *.zip and decompress it. Now you can open the HoudahGeo.kml file located within the newly created folder. You may also use HoudahGeo to create KML files with no base URL.

2. Download a copy of Google Earth 4.2 and use that version for viewing KMZ files.

The bug has been reported to Google. Hopefully the next beta will address this issue.

Best,
Pierre Bernard
