When I choose the Open Selection command from the Results menu, nothing happens. Open selection with ... works OK for BBEdit (maybe others)

Is it me or a bug?

Thanks

Hi!

"open selection" works just as expected here. There have however been recent reports of this not working for 2 other users. So far I could not see what triggers the problem.

Which version of HoudahSpot are you using?
Which version of Mac OS X are you using?
Does "open selection" work when running a search with no "text content" criterion?
Does /Applications/Utilities/Console.app reveal any error messages as you try to "open selection"?
Have you tried rebuilding the launch services database?

OK, just noticed that the thread title answers the question as to version used.

Which version of HoudahSpot are you using?

2.5.6

Which version of Mac OS X are you using?

10.5.7

Yes

Does /Applications/Utilities/Console.app reveal any error messages as you try to "open selection"?

There are a lot of entries like:

7/13/09 7:03:50 PM HoudahSpot[8007] Document.m:1426 expression: ((( ((kMDItemTextContent == '*fi*'cd)))) && (((kMDItemContentType == 'public.html'c) || (kMDItemContentTypeTree == 'com.adobe.pdf'c))))

And a couple of:

7/13/09 2:51:58 PM HoudahSpot[6580] *** -[MetadataQueryController pathControlDoubleClickAction:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xfe8c5a0
7/13/09 2:51:58 PM HoudahSpot[6580] *** -[MetadataQueryController pathControlDoubleClickAction:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xfe8c5a0

Have you tried rebuilding the launch services database?

Nope. Don't think its a problem since LaunchBar, double clicking on a document in HoudahSpot, and Overflow don't seem to be getting confused.

Hi!

Thanks for the additional information.

The first type of log messages are perfectly normal. They show the query sent to Spotlight by HoudahSpot.

The pathControlDoubleClickAction messages do point to a bug. But that should be unrelated to the current issue.

Do I understand this correctly:

- With no "Text Content" criterion, "open selection" works fine
- Double-clicking always works fine

Hi!

I was able to reproduce the problem. It will be fixed with the next update.

The problem occurs when searching using a "Text Content" criterion and when the application to open the selection with is not currently running.
