I've installed Office for Mac 2011, and HoudahSpot searches that find Word docs, .pdf's, etc. allow me to see quick views of the search results without having to open the actual file.  But emails from Outlook for Mac 2011 will not. Will this problem be fixed soon?

Hi!

QuickLook is based upon plugins provided by the software vendor owning the file format. I.e. Microsoft needs to provide a QuickLook plug-in for Outlook emails.

I suppose QuickLook for these files does not work in the Finder either. Does it?

No--QuickLook doesn't work for Mac Outlook files.  I'll ask them for their plans.

In HoudahSpot 4, in the QuickLook pane, under "Messsage" it says "Message unavailable. Outlook must be running to see the message."  But it is running.  Is the issue the lack of QuickLook support? Then the error message is wrong.  Is there another way to see the content within HS?

Also has anyone tried this 3rd party Outlook QuickLook plugin? (edit: turns out that plugin was already installed. but still got message such as above in HS).

Hi!

This message must be coming from the Outlook Quick Look plug-in.

You can get a list of installed Quick Look plugins by using the following command in /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app. Copy and paste the command. Then hit Return.

qlmanage -m plugins

yes, it shows:

com.microsoft.outlook14.message -> /Users/myuser/Library/QuickLook/FGOutlook2011.qlgenerator (1.0)

which is of course, no surprise.  should i try removing it as it's probably outdated and not working?  what would HS show then as a preview?

bottom line, is there any way to see the content of Outlook mail messages in HS?

Hi!

From the message thread linked above, it seems that there is a newer version (or a newer install procedure) needed to get this third party plug-in working under OS X 10.9. I saw no mention of 10.10.

You can try removing the plug-in, but it does not appear that Microsoft has included a Quick Look plug-in with Outlook. I.e. you will most likely get no preview at all without the third party plug-in.
