I'll pay a new registration fee. Or a Pro version. Or I can use my own Google API key. Heck, I'd even pay a subscription fee. Anything to get back Google Maps.

Since moving to China, the Microsoft maps are worthless. That's not hyperbole; there isn't anything except huge major roads and bodies of water. I can't geocode anything here.

For now I've gone back to version 2.2.6 which works well enough, but I would like to stay in a supported version (2.9.4 as of today).

Is there anything at all I can do (other than continue to use an old version) to get maps that work in China?

(On top of it all, one of my GPS devices recognizes that it's in China and won't work!)

Thanks.

Hi!

Sorry to hear that Bing Maps do not work for you.

I have already been considering a solution where you could provide your own API key. Still have not made up my mind though.

That would be a great feature.

The Bing Maps used to be "good enough" for home in the USA, and for Mexico and Europe; but looking at the Bing Maps you'd think China was a wasteland. If I weren't going to be here for three years, I'd probably not even bother to open my mouth about it

BTW, have you tried the Google Earth geocoding feature?

I had introduced that when Google first objected our using the Google Maps.
