Why not just put a button in the Preferences Advanced pane to add the HoudahSpot icon to Finder rather than asking the user to manually drag the into the Finder toolbar while holding down the Command key. Seems like it would be more likely to work correctly rather than the manual process. Just my opinion. Have been using HoudahSpot for several years and it makes using search on a Mac a whole lot more user friendly.

Thank you for the feedback.

HoudahSpot used to have such a button. This required HoudahSpot to edit Finder preferences and then restart Finder. This happened at the risk of interrupting a file copy or other Finder operation. Moreover the format of Finder preferences changed over the years. In the end the risk of damaging the file outweighed the convenience of the simplified installation process.
