Hi,

HoudahSpot 2.5.7 on Snow Leopard not display any system files.
I tried version 2.5.1 on Leopard and I had no problems.
I stand that Spotlight displays system files with the appropriate option.

What are the differences between the Standard and Student license?

I apologize for my bad English

Hi!

HoudahSpot can only find files indexed by Spotlight. Some locations are by default excluded from indexing. You may use mdimport at the command line to force indexing of system files.

The single user and single student licenses are identical in function. The single student license is meant for students as well as for customers working in education

How, once I have used mdimport and then found the file I want, do I UNDO mdimport?

Hi!

The only way I can currently think of is adding the directory to the Privacy list in Spotlight Preferences.

OOOOh! I guess maybe I don't want to use mdimport. Many thanks for the heads up!

On a related topic, how can you determine whether Spotlight has indexed the text of a particular document?

I can run mdls against a file, but from what I can tell, it doesn't return metadata containing an index, or say, a boolean indicating is being indexed.

Hi!

I believe mdls only reports what Spotlight knows about the document.

Hi Pierre-

So how could I determine whether a certain file is indexed?

If I run mdls on a file that is indexed, mdls doesn't indicate that the file is indexed or not.

Or looked at another way, what directories on a local hard disk are not indexed by Spotlight? Is there a list somewhere?

Many thanks, Charles

Hi!

I'm sorry I don't know of any way to determine that.
