i searched my mistake now for 3 hours and read this thread:
http://houdah.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=2893891&highlight=timezone

i have exactly the same problem. i'm from germany and had been in new york city. i changed the time of my cam to nyc when we arrived there. i downloaded my photos to my laptop every evening with lightroom and converted it to DNG. i changed the timezone of my laptop to nyc during the stay there. now i have different timezone-information in my DNG-files while the time is correct.

so can not geotag files before the change of the timezone, but those afterwards. i found the different timezones in exif via adobe bridge.

how can i now correct the wrong timezones in the exif data? is there a tool with is no command-line? or do i have to take the dirty way and work with an offset in HoudahGeo?

i will never change the time in my camera or in my laptop... *damn*

Hi!

The only solution I know to work for sure is exiftool at the command line. I don't know if there is a GUI front end to exiftool. Time shifting using exiftool is actually pretty easy

If you still have the original RAW files, the easiest would of course be to redo DNG conversion.

You may also want to check if Lightroom has an option to shift times. Aperture has such an option, but only at the time of the import.

on which field of exif-information does houdahgeo rely on for the timezone information? i changed
"Date/Time Digitized             : 2009:05:17 16:36:08+02:00" to
"Date/Time Digitized             : 2009:05:17 16:36:08-04:00"
(like the images that work) with Exiftools. But it doesn't change anything in houdah.

btw: i haven't the original raws anymore.

Hi!

HoudahGeo checks for dates in the following order:

-gps:gpsdatestamp -gps:gpstimestamp
-exifatetimeoriginal
-exif:createdate

HoudahGeo does not monitor files for changes to their metadata. You need to re-import the files for HoudahGeo to see the new dates.

the gpsdata are both not set in my files. the datetimeoriginal and the createdate do not contain a timezone. i also checked all other time-fields and changed everything like the working files.

but they still show the wrong timezone in houdahgeo (GMT +2) no matter what i choose in camera setup. the working files (GMT -4) are fine in houdahgeo.

may i send you two images? the non-working and the working one. perhabs you can say me, where the difference is. why one is working and one not.

Hi!

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the time zone for exifatetimeoriginal is specified in a separate field: exif:timezoneoffset.

Feel free to email me images if you still need help.

i had also changed the timezoneoffset to the same value as the working files. but houdahgeo still shows different time-differences to the GMT-time.

i sent you two DNG-files via mail.
thank you

Hi!

(I tried to reply via email, but your server bounced my message on spam suspicion)

Both images have a time zone offset attribute. This takes precedence
over the Camera Setup time zone settings in HoudahGeo.

The image that does show the following value for xmpatetimeoriginal

exiftool -xmpatetimeoriginal non-working.dng

Date/Time Original              : 2009:05:17 16:36:08+02:00

This is not in sync with exifatetimeoriginal. Thus you get a 2 hour

offset rather than the 4 you would expect.

you're absolutly right. everythings works fine now. i will change all my pictures that have wrong timezones.
thank you very much.

when i read the exif-information via the exiftool, i used "exiftool name.dng" and i thought i would see every information. but that wasn't the case. and even if you use "exiftool -xmp:all name.dng" you can't see every field, like the datetimeoriginal. so, if you don't know what fields are available und concerned you can't find the mistake.

anyway, thank you.
