I used the tray in HoudahSpot 3 extensively for tagging. The tray no longer seems to be available. There's no options for it in Preferences.

Both HoudahSpot and HoudahSpotHelper are active.

Has this been removed from this release?
Is this a bug?
Is there a setting that I'm missing?

Hi!

The Tray has been superseded by the sidebar of the main HoudahSpot window.

A difference of note: HoudahSpot 4.0 uses Finder tags (aka. Mavericks tags) when tagging files. HoudahSpot 3.9 writes both Finder and Open Meta tags.

You can keep HoudahSpotHelper from HoudahSpot 3.x running and use the tray for tagging.

The older tray had a drop area where multiple files could be dropped from the finder, and tags could be set, not searched. The new sidebar only filters searches, as far as I can tell. It appears that there's no way to set tags with HoudahSpot 4.

I have discovered that it's possible to set tags on multiple files simultaneously using the Finder's context menu "Tags..." item. This is done by selecting multiple files, pressing Ctrl-click, a selecting "Tags...", and then assigning tags in the tag popup window. Given this, maybe the tagging feature in the old tray is no longer needed.

Hi!

You can assign tags by selecting Tags… from the Result menu.

You can also drag and drop files from results or from the Finder onto tags in the HoudahSpot sidebar.

You can also drag and drop files onto the "All Tagged Files" item in the sidebar. This behaves much as the drop well in the old tray window.

hi,
how can I reduce the size of the houdahspot window to the size of the sidebar? This would almost substitute the missing tray, especially on small screens.

Hi!

In HoudahSpot 4 you can hide the Search criteria pane and the Details pane. You cannot hide the search results.
I.e. if you want to show the sidebar, the smallest window you can get is sidebar + results.

You could also run HoudahSpotHelper from HoudahSpot 3 and use that for tagging.
