Hi,
just installed the trial version and trying to test if I can use my track data.
I used a Flash GPS that exports to a kml file, since all the software I've seen for now uses gpx files as source for geotag it's been quite difficult to update my photos with the location.
I've seen on your software that I can import data from kml, and in fact in the track library it seems that the kml is converted to gpx, but for some reason when I import that file using "import GPS data rom file" there is no data display or associated to my photos, can it be a problem on the kml file? any idea about what is happening?
Pd one thing i've noticed is that the data on my kml file (as seen from google earth) is write using mm/dd/yyyy instead of dd/mm/yyyy (as my camera does), also it is saved with am/pm
thanks in advance for your time

Hi!

Unfortunately there is no standard for storing timestamps in KML files. It's not just that the format is not defined, there is no standard location in the file for timestamps.

HoudahGeo relies on GPSBabel to read and convert the KML file to GPX. More often than not this strips timestamps appearing in unexpected locations.

Which GPS device do you have?
Is it capable of generating other file formats?

hi Pierre,
that's a fast reply!!
the GPS device is "Flash GPS reporter" is just a small logger and has a software that just lets you convert to kml, I tryd to browse the unit itself but there's no file with gpx extension, just a huge file without extension that is supposed to have a propietary format.
I've just imported the gpx file generated by HoudahGeo (when I imported my kml file before) and it works fine with Google Earth, I can see waypoints and tracks, in the KML file I also can see "routes".
So don't know how to continue, I have 5 weeks of travel information and near 2.000 photos so I appreciate any suggestion.

Hi!

I have never before heard of that device.

I read it uses a uBlox chip set. Though I did not find which one.

With a little luck you might be able to use one of the Wintec settings in HoudahGPS / HoudahGeo to connect to the device.

If not you may try http://www.u-blox.com for compatible software.

I wish use the older tracks from my Garmin Dakota. I put all the tracks in Google Earth and I want if I can use the file KML export from the Google Earth. I try to use the file and nothing was geocoded. When I put these tracks in GoogleEarth, I know that I have photos that "fit" with these tracks exported in file KML from GoogleEarth.
Can I do that or not
If you have a hint or a direction for searching about that, I appreciate because I have a lot of photos that I want to geocode but all the tracks were deleted from my Garmin and saved in Google Earth.

Hi!

Unfortunately you cannot use KML to tag images.

The KML format has no standard location to store timestamps. I.e. everyone stores them in a different way. Usually some form of HTML text is used.

Thus there is no reliable way to convert KML back to GPX with timestamps.
