Is it possible to use HoudahSpot to look for files on an NFS remote mounted volume? I tried and it says nothing found and I'm certain there are files with the name I searched for. Any suggestions??

Is there a way to copy the index files from the system that it's really mounted on or even better to have some aliases or soft links to where those files really sit on the other system?

Thanks...

Hi!

HoudahSpot can only find files on volumes indexed by Spotlight.

They are indexed -- but on the computer that the volume is locally mounted on. So the question seems to be how to use the indexes remoteley from another Mac?? Where are they really stored? On the volume itself or somewhere on the local /System or ???

I did a little looking around and it looks like the indexes are stored in the root folder of each file system in .Spotlight-v100/ folder - so now the question is there a way to get HoudahSpot to use this information as if the filesystem were a local mounted one and not NFS???? Or maybe a better question is why doesn't it use this information if it's there already??

Thanks...

Hi!

Indexes are stored at the root of the volume in a hidden folder named .Spotlight-V100.

HFS volumes mounted via AFP can be searched when indexed. I unfortunately don't know about NFS.
