Hi,

Can you help me please?
I am using a Columbus P-9 which has a MediaTek MT3339 chipset.
Which preset do I use to import data using HoudahGPS?

Thanks,

Sorry, I meant Columbus P-1.

The MTK-Locus preset should be a good match for the MediaTek MT3339 chipset.

I can't comment on which USB driver to use. Actually, the P-1 may not be meant to be used in that way. A brief look at its user manual suggests it works as a USB drive where the logs appear as CSV files. Try converting those using the Columbus V-900 format. Chances are the P-1 uses the same format.

Thanks.  Yes, I'd just spotted that the MTK-Locus mentioned the MT339 chipset.  When I set it the the 'Import' box is greyed out.  I've set the Columbus to record tracks in GPX format.  I've got it working only MAC as a USB drive OK, I was hoping to be able to import the tracks directly to convert them to KML format.  I know that I can convert them by selecting them with the convert function.

The "Import" button is greyed out when USB device is not found. The drop-down menu for device names lists names of devices that might be compatible. If you find that list empty, you do not have a USB driver that matches your track logger.

BTW, I always recommend customers get a track logger that does not need a special driver, but instead works as "USB Mass Storage Device". I.e. appears as thumb drive in Finder.

Installing third-party drivers always comes with the risk of creating problems. Now or later. E.g. when the OS is updated and the driver is no longer compatible. Relying on such a device also means that you need to wait for updated drivers to become available before upgrading to a new version of macOS.

As an added benefit, I find it covenient to grab tracklogs as files in Finder and just drop these were I want to save them.

OK.

Thanks.  I looked for a MAC USB driver and can't find one.
I think I'll convert using the 'Select' file method.

Thank you for you assistance.
