I am a student who has to consult several textbooks during the day. I prefer doing text searches of my ebooks using Houdaspot. I noticed that when doing text searches, epub and CHM files are exempt from the results.

Is there any solution to this problem?

Hi!

HoudahSpot searches the Spotlight index. Spotlight relies on importer plug-ins to extract metadata and text content from file. Usually importers for third party file formats are installed with the application that owns the file format.

If you have an application to edit epub or CHM files that could include a Spotlight importer. It is then up to that importer to extract (or decide not to) the text content of epub files for Spotlight to index it.

A quick search found standalone Spotlight and Quick Look plug-ins that should handle epub files: https://github.com/GenjiApp/EPUB-Plugins.

I had no such luck searching for a CHM Spotlight importer.
