Hi,
does the software work with the new Wintec WPL-1000? (same chipset like WBT-201).
Thanks, Rebel.

Hi!

HoudahGeo uses the open source tool GPSBabel to connect to GPS devices. Currently they don't advertise WPL-1000 compatibility. That doesn't mean it does not work. Probably nobody has tried it yet.

You however don't need HoudahGeo to directly support your device in order to use it for photo geocoding. You just need a way to get a track log (GPX or NMEA) out of the device. HoudahGeo can work from such a track log file.

Wintec provides Windows software. Thus, as a last resort, you could use that to download tracks from the device.

Hi,

I'm just getting started with geocoding in general and HoudahGeo in particular. I've looked at different GPS loggers, and the WPL-1000 looks very appealing to me, too. I haven't been able to confirm its compatibility with HoudahGeo anywhere on the net, and this particular thread is more than six months old. Does anyone have an update? Or has anyone tried it and can confirm that it works?

Thanks,

Gerhard

Hi!

It appears that the device uses a proprietary log format which is meant to be read by a Windows executable supplied with the device.

There is however an open source command line tool, wpl1000-reader, which claims to be able to read the proprietary format.

Thanks, Pierre!

Found the tool and downloaded it, but can't run it -- I'm getting the error message below.

wpl1000reader: Bad CPU type in executable.

I am assuming that this is because I'm running it on an iMac G5 -- I don't have an Intel Mac yet. I have contacted the developer to see if there is a PPC version of the tool available, too. And if there is, I should be all set ...

UPDATE:

I've worked with the developer, Oliver Lau, over the last couple of weeks to come up with a PPC version of wpl1000reader. Oliver has been very responsive and worked very hard to generate and debug the PPC version. It is ready now and available here.

Thanks,

Gerhard
