I've been using HoudahSpot since 2006.

In my first two weeks using Tembo 1.3 (beta), I've done only a couple of HoudahSpot searches ... to compare the results to Tembo. I REALLY like Tembo's fresh new interface.

The great bulk of my HoudahSpot use has been searching by file or folder name, which is almost always good enough to find what I want. That's why Tembo has been such a success for me.

In HoudahSpot, when name-only produces too many results, it's easy to add specific, detailed search criteria. If I continue using Tembo for most of my searching, I'll have to switch to HoudahSpot when Tembo isn't up to the task.

What I'd prefer is merging HoudahSpot's unique features into a grander Tembo Pro for power users.

Yea, I've never liked HoudahSpot's UI, but do like the power of the app. I'd also like Tembo's UI with the power of HoudahSpot.

Hi!

Thank you for the feedback.

Currently I don't see how I could inject the power of HoudahSpot into Tembo without bringing along the complex interface. Much of the power of HoudahSpot comes from boolean operators. I can't think of a better interface for those than what HoudahSpot has. The catch is that both the interface and the boolean operators are beyond the comprehension of many.

Best,

It could incorporate the results view in Tembo that is broken up into different groups. Instead of sliding into the drill down view where you can choose between icon and list views it could show the icons in the group titles, like it did in the Tiger Spotlight results window.

The groups could also be collapsable like they were in Tiger

From my recent post in the Tembo forum:

To see if I can stick with Tembo for the bulk of my searching, I've created a QuicKeys shortcut that grabs Tembo's current search string, closes the Tembo window, switches to HoudahSpot, opens a New Search window, pastes Tembo's search value, and clicks the Return key.

Perhaps this will be the best of both Tembo and HoudahSpot ... until HoudahSpot morphs itself into Tembo Pro.

Hi!

That's an interesting idea. Thanks for posting.

Maybe Tembo could detect the presence of HoudahSpot and offer an option to start a BlitzSearch.
