I'm new here and would be grateful for some advice.

I have a directory containing both .xls and .xlsx files. When I select content type contains and search for xls files Houdahspot finds them. But if I enter xlsx files Houdahspot does not find them and shows an empty directory.

I'm prepared to accept I might be doing something wrong and would be grateful for some advice on how to find xlsx files. Thanks.

Hi!

Please try "find by example": Drag an existing XLSX file onto a "Content Kind/Type" criterion. Anywhere but onto the textfield. The criterion will adjust to match the type of the file you just dragged in.

Thank you for the tip. I have three questions:

* Does this apply to all files with 4 letter file extensions?
* Is is possible for this to be fixed or is this a limitation of the OS X file system?

Lastly, I have watched the 2008 ScreenCast about HoudahSport. Are there any more recent videos that will bring me up to speed on your application very quickly. Thank you.

Hi!

All files have UTIs (Universal Type Identifiers). Find by example is an easy way to discover them. You may also find them in the Inspector window within HoudahSpot.

If you prefer to search by file name extension, you may search for "file name" "ends with" ".xls".
